Makeup is a beautiful art in itself. Applying makeup could be very challenging if you are not a professional. A good makeup can get ruined fast if things go wrong due to problems that can be corrected by using the right product and technique. If you love makeup so much and you have your own beauty routine with tricks and hacks you apply to give you that flawless look, there are still some mistakes you could make without realizing while applying makeup.
These mistakes could be not using your bronzer properly, using the wrong primer, not bending your foundation well and clumsy contouring around the nose and jaw line, heavy/thick brow make-up and rushing your lipstick application. In this article, you will be exposed to common makeup and beauty mistakes and how you can fix them.
1. WEARING THE WRONG FOUNDATION SHADE:
Don’t use foundation that will make your skin look darker. Go for a foundation colour which looks natural and illuminate using bronzers and blushes. You are likely to create a mask-like appearance by choosing a very dark foundation.
2. SLEEPING WITH MAKEUP:
Wearing makeup to bed is bad for you because it leads to future break-outs; it makes you look older soon and can give your face an uneven texture. When makeup settles in your pores, it stretches them out which is permanent for a long time. Enlarged pores can make your skin look rough and aged. Make sure you use the right eye makeup remover when washing your face instead of the normal cleanser. Cleansers can rip out eye lashes due to the harsh abrasion.
3. YOU DON’T CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES:
Cleaning your makeup brushes should always be part of your beauty and makeup routine because those dirty brushes can affect your makeup application due to the colours being mixed up together and the blending cannot be accurate because the bristles of the brush will lose their shape as they are already accumulated with cake. Furthermore, if you re-use your brushes continuously, you spread left-over makeup residue on your face creating a breeding ground for bacteria which will lead to break-outs.
4. USING OLD OR EXPIRED MAKEUP:
Make sure you check the expiry date of any makeup product you buy because as it expires, the chemical stability breaks down over time making it unsafe for your face. Also, products like mascara absorb bacteria like just like sponge after a certain period of time. Using expired makeup increases the risk of contacting infection, damages your skin and gives you a terrible look. So, if you haven’t checked your makeup products recently, do so now to get rid of all expired products.
5. NOT BLENDING MAKEUP PROPERLY:
What happens when your makeup doesn’t blend properly?. You create a mask appearance because edges are created between the neckline and the face. Also, if your makeup doesn’t blend properly, it won’t stay and it would smear off. If your foundation is not properly blended it will be obvious. The two main areas you should blend perfectly irrespective of the kind of foundation you use are the jaw line and nose, the nose top especially. This will help you so as to make sure your foundation is as unnoticeable as possible.
6. SHARING MAKEUP OFTEN:
Sharing makeup is wrong and it’s not good for you. Anything that comes in direct and close contact with your skin should be carefully taken care of and should not be shared. This can cause infection, allergy and irritation as well depending on the nature of skin and the person the makeup is shared with. Think about sharing a lipstick with someone and the number of lips the person’s lips have come in contact with. This is very unsafe and unhygienic. Make sure you get your own make-up products!
7. TOO MUCH MAKEUP:
It is better to focus on a particular focal point on the face to highlight. For example if you use a blood red stunning lipstick, its better you reduce the eyeliner or if you are showcasing a deep smoky eye, its good you minimize your lipstick or make it moderate. Your makeup will be too much if too many areas are illuminated and highlighted. Try to go for an appearance which is more natural and highlight one feature. Also, your foundation shouldn’t be excessive and shouldn’t be applied to your entire face except you are covering blemishes, acne or discolorations or else it will give a mask appearance. You should focus more on the nose areas and the under eyes.
8. NO TESTING BEFORE BUYING:
Always make sure you test the makeup you buy before you make a purchase to make sure it fits your skin, colour, texture and tone.
9. TOO MUCH BROW MAKEUP:
Eye-brow art and shaping is very important to give you that overall beautiful and classy look. Remember your eye-brows must have that natural and beautiful look to make it look good and its necessary you know its natural shape as irrespective of how dark or enhanced you want it to look. It is good you use your face as a guide to where you want your eye-brow product to be placed. Ideally the start of your eye-brows should always align with where the nostrils end. You can lightly carve out the shape you want with the eye-brow pencil first before you fill it. Also, if you draw or colour your eye-brows, try not to darken so much so that there will be no prominent contrast between your hair and brows. Try to match your hair with your eye-brows.
10. YOU RUSH YOUR LIPSTICK:
Don’t be too fast applying your lipstick, instead take time to apply it carefully to give you the best look. Make sure you first of all line the edges of your lipstick to get the perfect shape, and then you can apply your lipstick because the edges are good already. This will make your lipstick last longer.
11. APPLYING LIPSTICK TO DRY LIPS:
If you have dry or chapped lips and you apply liquid lipsticks very often, you lips could like crumbled because it is chapped. You can use a lip scrub to remove all the dead skin cells and start using a lip balm to moisturize the lips. The lip balm has to soak into the lips to make it well moisturized.
12. YOU DON’T APPLY FOUNDATION IN YOUR EARS AND NECK:
When applying foundation, you should never make the mistake of leaving out your ears and neck. Even if your foundation blends perfectly with the colour of your neck and ear, it is important you apply it to those areas because foundations can change the longer you wear them.
In summary, these common mistakes can be corrected if the proper procedures and techniques are followed. Each step and procedure must be thoroughly carried out to give the best result
